Vaccination Guidelines
- A vaccination is a medical decision and a medical procedure that should be individualized based on the risk and lifestyle of the individual animal. See Risk Assessment form.
- Vaccines are categorized as core, noncore (or optional) and or not recommended.
- Core vaccines are those that all dogs/cats should receive.
- Optional vaccines should be administered selectively based on the animal's geographic location and lifestyle as well as an assessment of the risks and benefits.
Initial Puppy Vaccination Guideline
DHLPP – Combined Vaccination Protecting Against Canine Distemper, Adenovirus-2 (Hepatitis) and Parvovirus (Core)
The first vaccination is administered at 6-8 weeks of age, then every 3-4 weeks until the puppy is 16-18 weeks old.
Rabies (Core)
One dose is given as early as 3 months of age.
Leptosporosis (Non-core)
Administer 1 dose at 12 weeks of age and one dose at 14-16 weeks of age. This is not to be administered to dogs younger than 12 weeks of age.
Canine Parainfluenza Virus (Non-core)
This is administered at 6-8 weeks of age then every 3-4 weeks until 16-18 weeks of age.
Canine Corona Virus (Non-core)
This is administered at 6-8 weeks of age then every 3-4 weeks until 16-18 weeks of age.
Bordetella (Non-core)
This is administered at 6-8 weeks of age then a second dose is given at 10-12 weeks of age.
Lyme (Non-core)
The initial dose is administered at 9-12 weeks of age then a second dose is given 2-4 weeks later.
Initial Adult Vaccination (After 16 weeks of age)
Rabies (Core)
A single dose is administered according to local / state regulations. A 3 year Rabies vaccine maybe substituted as an alternative to a 1 year rabies vaccine for initial and subsequent doses.

Intra-nasal - A single dose is recommended by the manufacturer.
Leptosporosis (Non-core)
Two doses are administered 2-4 weeks apart
Lyme (Non-Core)
Two doses are administered 2-4 weeks apart
Initial Feline Vaccination Guidelines
FDVRTC - Combined Vaccination Protecting Against Feline Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Pneumonitis (Core)
This is administered at 6-8 weeks of age then every 3-4 weeks until 12-14 weeks of age for kittens.
Adult cats receive 2 doses 3-4 weeks apart.
Rabies (Core)
One dose is administer at 12-16 weeks of age.
Feline Leukemia Virus (Non-core)
This vaccination can be administered as early as 9 weeks of age then again at 12-13 weeks of age.
